Dr. Josh Hooton graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Utah Valley University, where he also served in the Department for Academic Excellence. He then attended the University of Utah where he earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice with an emphasis on Adult/Gerontology and Family Nurse Practitioner Primary Care. He was also the recipient of the George S. and Delores Doré Eccles Graduate Fellowship, which are awarded to students that possess “unusual ability and achievement.”
During his time at the University of Utah, Dr. Hooton wrote his clinical dissertation on effective principles of opioid management in a primary care setting. During his career, Dr. Hooton has developed chronic pain management treatment plans for a variety of mental health patients and provided intensive outpatient psychiatric care to them as well. In 2018 Dr Hooton attended Wilkes University to successfully complete his Psychiatry Mental Health national certification with the ANCC.
Dr. Hooton worked at Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital for 8 yrs in the ICU before treating patients in the out-patient office setting. During his time in the ICU he acquired many critical skills in safely managing sedating, therapeutic IV infusions and injections, and complex medication management. In his early years as a Nurse Practitioner he worked in chronic pain management at Utah Pain Relief Institute and mentored under Osteopathic Physician Dr. Gary Child and then began using Ketamine therapy at Life Spring Pain Management Center under Physical Pain and Rehabilitation Physician Dr. Christian Obah. He quickly realized the therapeutic benefits it had on patients. In 2016 he started working at Cedar Psychiatry and mentored under Psychiatrist Dr. Reid Robison. In February 2019 Dr. Hooton decided to enter into private practice where he could further help treat the chronic conditions and mental illness of his patients.
Dr. Hooton is passionate about providing mental health care to his patients. He is dedicated to further advancing his knowledge of psychiatry, addiction, treatment resistant mental conditions, and complex medication management which has involved alternative treatments such as Ketamine and Medical Cannabis. He is also a suboxone/buprenorphine provider and continues to help treat the opioid abuse/dependence epidemic.

Daxton is a Clinical Mental Health Counselor who works with people seeking healing from trauma, anxiety, and deeply rooted negative beliefs. He received his master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University in 2024. Since graduating, he has helped dozens of individuals navigate their mental health journeys. His work has allowed him to support clients who have experienced various forms of trauma, including church-related trauma, sexual abuse, and abandonment. He also works with people struggling with anxiety and depression rooted in negative core beliefs such as feeling unwanted, incapable, or unlovable.
Daxton approaches therapy by meeting clients where they are in their lives and helping them develop insight and practical tools to break self-sabotaging patterns and build healthier, more adaptive habits.
Before joining the Center of Revitalizing Psychiatry, Daxton spent over ten years serving as a pastoral leader in his home community, where he continues to provide counseling, guidance, and support to individuals, families, and couples from a faith-informed perspective. During this time, he also wrote and self-published a faith-based book focused on supporting individuals and couples struggling with infertility. These experiences deepened his understanding of the human need for connection, meaning, and healing, and have enhanced his ability to work effectively with both religious and non-religious clients from a position of unconditional positive regard.
Daxton’s clinical areas of focus include personal growth and trauma healing through EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). These evidence-based approaches are used to foster hope, self-awareness, emotional regulation, and a renewed sense of control over thoughts and emotions. His goal is to help clients reprocess past experiences, strengthen resilience, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
