Work with Elderly Population

Our center provides considerable amount of services to elderly population.  Our doctors are highly trained
geriatric psychiatrists.
We offer outpatient services at
our Hackensack Center as well as on premises of Nursing Homes, Adult
Day Care Centers and Assisted Living Communities.

What we do:

Conduct active research in the fields of geriatric psychiatry and psychology

Present a number of innovative techniques and methodologies in addressing: Alzheimer’s disease,
memory loss, depression, anxiety, and behavioral and other mental problems in the elderly.

Our Center offers multidisciplinary services:

- Psychiatric assessment and evaluations
- Medication monitoring and planning
- Both individual and group psychotherapy specifically developed for the elderly
-     relaxation therapy sessions
-     family therapy
-     memory loss reversal programs including early stages of Alzheimer's disease
-     maintenance  of stability in advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease
-     supportive therapy approach  for family members


Our Mission:

To lessen the damaging impact of the transitional process and period of losses in the elderly not only
through adjustment to change, but also through learning how to win back some of the independence that
is lost. We strongly believe that to achieve our goal it is not enough to work only with our clients, but we
must also address these changes within their surrounding environment, which includes our staff, family
members and friends.

The main issues that we can address in our treatment:

1. Personal mental health.  We are specializing in treatment of the following mental conditions:

  • Depression or Mood instability
  • Anxiety
  • Cognitive Decline
  • Behavioral Problems (agitation and disorientation)
  • Psychosis
  • Dealing with grief
  • Changes in sleep pattern and appetite

2. Life’s transitions—the period of losses.  One of the major features of aging is charachterized by  
multiple losses:

  • Loneliness and being alone

Our Methodologies

Solution-Focused therapy

We help the residents to develop specific skills for adjustment to multiple losses and changes within their
environment through individual and group therapy.

State-of-the-Art Psychopharmacology

We can safely and effectively treat mental illness by focusing on psychopharmacological issues from the
perspectives of age and age-related disease effects on particular organ systems, taking into account
possible drug interactions.

Group Counseling

  • We address interpersonal relationships within a group setting, emphasizing communication of the
    resident’s needs and the understanding of the needs of others.  Supportive therapy is also carried
    out in a group setting, which teaches residents self-reliance and coping techniques in a day-to-day
    situations.
  • We introduce specific methodology within a group setting, thus allowing the adjustment skills to
    develop through the experience of peers.
  • Memory Enhancement Program
  • Progressive Relaxation and Mediation Techniques
  • Stress Reduction, Coping Skills, Training Worry Control

Individual Counseling

  • We provide supportive therapy and grief management in a one-on-one confidential setting.
  • We aid verbalization of feelings and suppressed emotions through the individual therapy approach.

Family System Approach

  • We meet with family members to allow them to understand the nature of resident’s problems, as
    well as reassure the availability of professional support and supervision of medications prescribed.
  • We also provide an opportunity for catharsis and ventilation in a secure and confidential,
    therapeutic environment.

Staff Education

  • Help in understanding resident’s needs
  • Teach about providing personalized attention

  • Address potential abuse
