Cognitive-Behavioral Model as one of the best proven treatment approaches in
psychotherapy
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy has two major goals:
- Firstly, it deals with the way people manipulate their thoughts and feelings, which they may attach to
their past, present or the future and explore the maladaptive connections between these thoughts
and feelings, which the person may not notice on his own.
- Secondly, this kind of therapy helps people realize and identify their negative thoughts and feelings
and work on changing them into healthy and productive ones along with changing their behavior
patterns from maladaptive to adaptive ones.
Benefits:
- Targets problematic areas and creates effective problem-solving techniques.
- The therapist and the client mutually agree on the goals of the treatment.
- Both the therapist and the client work collaboratively on identifying the problems, treatment
planning and outcome evaluation.
- As a part of the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, the client is taught how to utilize different kinds of
relaxation techniques, such as: deep diaphragmatic breathing, progressive muscle relaxation,
tension and release approach, etc.
The Cognitive-Behavioral Model is used with clients of various age-ranges and presenting problems. There
is no minimum or maximum age for this treatment technique to be applied and a psychotherapist
determines whether a particular client may benefit from this Cognitive-Behavioral approach. IN other
words, the application of this approach is done on case-by-case basis.
